For those of you that don’t know I am based in Hullbridge, Essex with a current temperature of 33degrees.
The tips I will be sharing with you may not work for everyone. You dont need to use them all or at all. I just find these work for me and if they help just one or two people then that makes me so happy. So please enjoy reading my Top Tips for Keeping Cool and Looking After your Wellbeing and let me know how you get on or if you have any of your own.
Top Tips for Keeping Cool
- Stay hydrated – Drinking water is one of the best ways of staying hydrated in the hot water as it is hydrating you from the inside which is great for all your organs, blood and joints.
- Keep your curtains pulled so the sun is not beaming in through the windows. Also remember glass can be magnifying and reflect and even start fires so be careful.
- If you need to reduce your body temperature use a cold bottle or cloth and hold on pulse points such as wrists, ankles, armpits and neck as it can help cool your body
- Wear loose comfortable clothing, if your clothing can flow it will help the air get around your body
- Try to move as little as possible so that you are not using too much energy or generating a highly body temperature
- Open all your doors and windows to allow air movement. This is also great for letting any negative energy out and any germs.
- Keep bottles of water in the fridge so you do not need to wait for it to cool down. I am lucky enough to have a water dispenser built into my fridge so it is always cold.
- Tie long hair back so it is away from your neck
- Wear a hat when outside to protect your head from the sun
- Apply sun lotion throughout the day even if it is a all day wear lotion. Remember to put your lotion on your whole body I once put the lotion on while wearing shorts therefore not putting lotion on the top of the legs. I striped off by the pool to my bikini and burnt the tops of my legs (ouch).
- Try to eat cold food items such as salads so that your oven and hob is not on generating more heat in your home. No one wants to be in a hot kitchen.
- Use a fan if needed and if safe and possible to do put a bowl of ice in front of the fan so it cools the air thats being circulated.
- Turn off any electricals not in use including lights as they can genereate heat in your home
- Take regaular breaks throughout the day to rest even if its for 10 minutes its still a break from your task
- Break down tasks into smaller manageable ones. For example if you cleaning the kitchen break it down into areas Fridge, Worktop, Sink, Oven and after each area reward yourself with a drink break,
- If you require to do any exercise try and complete either early morning or late at night. Perhaps try stretching, yoga, pilates instead of your normal cardio
- Sleep without any covers on you or if you need a cover just use a sheet. Another tip I’ve heard recently is to put your bed covers in a freezer to cool first (not tried this myself.
Looking After Your Wellbeing
- Gratitude – start and the end each day for writing down something you are grateful for. Start with just one thing but you can increase this over time
- Take some time for you – make some time for you just once a week to start with. Whether its a sit down with a good book or a relaxing bath or a trip to the hairdressers or salon. Whatever you choose dont feel guilty about it its your time
- Try to do a meditation or mindful to try and calm your mind. We are all leading very busy lives so to take some time to calm your mind can be very uplifting and help change your mood or outlook
- Journalling – is another great way of clearing your mind of mindchatter as you write it all down so it is clear from your head. I find this can be helpful if I have a busy mind at bed time
- Read a book – whether it is a fiction book, inspirational book, autobiography it can be a great way to change your mood or help you relax.
- Use a good moisturiser and body cream/lotion on a daily basis to help add moisture back to your skin. You should be doing this each morning and evening. Remember to do your feet as well as it will help with any cracked heals
- When choosing products for your skin look to see if they offer a sun protection. I tend to choose a quality product which is for sensitive or normal skin and as natural as possible
- Connect with other like minded people that can lift your spirits. The more empowering, encouraging and positive people the better as it can really lift the energy. I love getting a group of ladies together to help build our energies and support each other.
- Use affirmations and choose positive thoughts and words. Changing one word in a sentence can really work in changing the meaning and making it more uplifting. Here is a affirmation for you all ‘I value my worth and I will be the best I can be’
